ACP Working Party (Africa, Caribbean and Pacific)
The ACP Working Party is responsible for the EU’s development and trade relations with the 78 countries in the ACP region (Africa, Caribbean, Pacific) and for the implementation of the partnership agreement between the EU and the ACP countries, the Cotonou Agreement (2000, revised 2005). This includes (in cooperation with other relevant geographical groups) the political dialogue under articles 8 and 96 of the Cotonou Agreement, and relations with and the funding of the institutions established as part of cooperation. The group also drafts political guidelines for the programming and management of the joint EC development assistance to the ACP countries (EUR 23 billion under the 10th European Development Fund, EDF 10, that covers the period 2008–2013). In recent years, much time and energy has been devoted to negotiating regional economic partnership agreements (EPAs) between the EU and the ACP countries.
