The Presidency in sign language

The EU Member States take it in turns to hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. For six months, from 1 July until 31 December 2009, Sweden is the country sitting in the EU driving seat. This means that it is the Swedish Government that will be responsible for leading and moving the EU’s work forward. Here you can watch a film in sign language about what a Presidency involves, about the Swedish Presidency's priority issues and about the meetings taking place during the Presidency.

What does it mean to hold the Presidency? Can Sweden pursue its own interests during the Presidency? Which meetings will be held in Sweden? And why does the Presidency cost so much? You can find the answers to these and many more questions in our frequently asked questions section. Here you can also ask the Presidency more questions.
