Electromagnetic fields are everywhere in our modern society, and for the great majority of us they do not pose any kind of risk. But some professional groups are exposed to such an extent that risks can arise. This includes, for example, people who work with plastic soldering machines or glue-drying machines, and in healthcare with diathermy equipment and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scanners.

The European Development Days (EDD) will be held at Stockholm International Fairs in Älvsjö on 22-24 October. The EDD is being jointly organised by Sweden and the European Commission and is the largest meeting that will be held during the Swedish Presidency, with over 250 international organisations and 4 000 participants, including several heads of state and government from around the world. The meeting is open to the public.

On Saturday, 10 October Polish President Lech Kaczynski will sign Poland’s ratification instrument for the Treaty of Lisbon in Warsaw.

Today, 10 October, Poland concludes the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty. At a ceremony in Warsaw, Polish President Lech Kaczynski signed the ratification instrument in the presence of President of the Council Fredrik Reinfeldt, President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso and President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek.

These are some of the participants who, together with Sweden’s Prime Minister, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for International Development Cooperation, are expected to attend the annual European Development Days, which this year is being held in Stockholm. The meeting, which will be the largest during the Swedish Presidency of the EU, was presented at a press briefing on Friday, 9 October.

On 16 October Minister for Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt will head an EU troika visit to Moldova. The purpose of the visit is to meet representatives of the new Government of Moldova, including Prime Minister Vlad Filat and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Iurie Leanca.
