The Eurogroup meets before all regular Council meetings, and also in connection with the informal ECOFIN meetings, regardless of whether the host country is a part of the monetary union or not. The Eurogroup is made up of representatives of the Member States that use the euro as currency, and its meetings focus on issues concerning the euro. The Commission and the European Central Bank (ECB) are also invited to take part. The Eurogroup is an informal body and is thus not counted as a Council configuration.
At the press conference:
Jean-Claude Trichet, President of the European Central Bank
Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the Eurogroup
Joaquín Almunia, European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs
