The conference is taking place within the context of the European Year of Creativity and Innovation.
The aim is to promote the exchange of experience and knowledge on how public investments can help to ensure that children and young people’s right to culture in all forms is guaranteed.
"An important objective for this conference is to learn more about both the possibilities and problems of the new culture and media landscape that our children and young people encounter. The digital cultural platforms create new and often difficult issues that, despite their different starting points, are clearly related. And it is almost always young people who are affected", says Minister for Culture Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth.
Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth will open the conference. The keynote speakers are Renad Qubbaj and Professor Anne Bamford.
- Renad Qubbaj is from the Tamer Institute for Community Education in Ramallah. Earlier this year, the Institute received the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award.
- Professor Bamford is recognised for her research in arts education, media literacy and visual communication and is Director of Cultural Programmes for Creativity, Culture and Education (CCE), London. Anne Bamford is also based at the Engine Room at the University of the Arts, London.
Today children and young people are, to a great extent, not only consumers but also producers in the new media landscape.
In four seminars, the participants will discuss different aspects of daily life for children and young people. They will be given the opportunity to meet the real experts in the area, the young people themselves, who will guide the participants as they try out the younger generation’s world of digital communication.
Other issues that will be discussed in the seminars are how we can strengthen children and young people’s right to culture, how the traditional cultural institutions can find ways to remain attractive and accessible for the new generation, and children and young people’s media habits across Europe.
