Press invitation: Informal education ministers’ meeting in Göteborg

Minister for Education Jan Björklund has invited his European colleagues to an informal ministerial meeting in Göteborg next week. During two days ‒ Wednesday 23 and Thursday 24 September ‒ the education ministers will discuss the role of teachers and school administrators in achieving good results in school.

During the two days of the meeting, three people will speak to the participants. The first of the speakers will be Dr Barbara Ischinger, Director for Education at OECD. She will speak about how the teaching profession can be made more attractive, on the basis of the ‘TALIS’ study. This study reveals, for example, that teachers are rarely encouraged to undertake further training.

The second speaker will be Professor Ilse Schrittesser, who works at the University of Vienna and carries out research into teacher education and professionalism. Her presentation will focus on teacher education and continuing education for teachers.

The final talk will be held by Sir Michael Barber. He is responsible for the ‘McKinsey Report’, which is about what creates a successful school. He was formerly a political adviser to Tony Blair.

More information for journalists and details about the meeting can be found in the media programme attached.

Please note that accreditation via the accreditation link is compulsory if you intend to come to the meeting.

We look forward to seeing you.
